A Suffolk plumber has been jailed for carrying out work on gas fittings and appliances when he was not registered to do so.
It is needless to say that anyone working with Gas or Electricity should be fully qualified and experienced. It is vital that you as a customer ensure you check they are registered and qualified. For example if a plumber or engineer is GAS SAFE registered (Corgi) then that person is fully qualified and registered to work safely with all gas appliances. It does not matter if the gas worker is based in Leicestershire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, they should all be GAS SAFE registered to work with gas.
Unfortunately the plumber in question admitted five breaches of gas and health and safety regulations in 2009 and 2010. He was jailed for six months at Ipswich Crown Court. The Health & Safety Executive said he carried on working despite getting a written warning in April 2010.
Speaking after the hearing, a Health & Safety Executive inspector, said: “When unqualified workers try to bypass the law they are not only putting themselves at risk of prosecution, they are also putting their customers’ lives at risk.
The Chief Executive of the Safe Gas Register, said: “If you’re employing an engineer, you should always make sure that person is Gas Safe registered.”Don’t just take their word for it, check they are on the register and check their ID when they arrive.”
Luckily for you all our plumbers and engineers are fully qualified in plumbing and heating, very experienced in the industry and most importantly they are GAS SAFE registered. We have registered plumbers and heating engineers based across the whole of Leicestershire in addition to Rutland, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.
